Bicycle Blossoms
Bicycle Blossoms. A modular bike rack system increasing visibility, functionality and safety for cyclists in traffic as well as pedestrians.
A modular bikerack that is more noticable for the cyclist from afar especially in traffic or on crowded sidewalks. It is part of a recognizable system that provides visual and formal variety but still has a consistent overall form language.
The system creates an overall structure that conveys its safety in its unity of parts but still has an inviting and welcoming appearance & feel.
In addition to focussing on the functional safety aspect of each rack, the overall approach was to increase the bike racks safety by raising pedestrians and cyclists awareness for it and making it a more noticable and prominent area in the urban environment.
The rack system with start and end pole, advertising space, vicinity maps and tubular racks.
Further considerations were what other services a bike rack can offer and how it can be upvalued by providing added functionality and additional information about the vicinity, timetables, advertising space or becoming meeting point etc.
The bike rack plants a strip into the urban landscape that can be added on to and adapted through color, shape and functions to its immediate surroundings.
The rack can be arranged as a straight line or in curved shapes.
